#1 Out of the Closet

A blink-and-you-might-miss-it kind of store, you won’t believe that Out of the Closet has been around since 1989! After heading down the set of stairs on Flinders Street you’ll find yourself in a basement filled with a wild array of vintage goods, accessories, costumes and even vinyl records. Everything a vintage-lovers heart desires!
#2 Yesteryear Vintage Carlton
Where: 237a Faraday Street, Carlton
Known for its carefully curated selection of vintage sourced from around the world, this is a store to head to if you are after high quality European-vintage. Tucked away in an unassuming location on Faraday Street, Yesteryear Vintage Carlton is a well-kept secret compared to its two other sister stores.

#3 Mrs Secondhand
Where: 11 Ann Street, Brunswick
Most people find out about Mrs Secondhand by word-of-mouth. You will find this gem in a cosy side-street where the crafty warehouse-style store is crammed full of second hand clothing, and overflowing with accessories and incredible furniture, décor and books. You can easily lose yourself pouring over their vast selection and not even notice an hour or two has gone by.

Grab your friends because it is time for a fashion montage! With flamboyant 1970s prints, colours and out-there dresses, this place is a veritable treasure trove of one-of-a-kind items. One purchase from Shag and people will be stopping you on the street just to ask where you got your fantastic ensemble from. With two Melbourne locations to choose from, this one is much lesser known. What Shag lacks in size, it well and truly makes up in an incredible array of vintage and designer clothing.

#5 Mutual Muse
Where: 687 High Street, Thornbury
Mutual Muse is a great little consignment store located in Thornbury that houses a top notch selection of pre-loved vintage and designer clothing. Their specialty is New Zealand and Australian labels, so expect to find some contemporary clothing mixed in with one-off vintage pieces.

Secondo has been around for nearing thirty years, and owner Elisabet Cheung has a keen eye for beautiful, high quality pieces that will stand the test of time. The South Yarra store specialises in second hand designer clothing, with brands like Prada, Issey Miyake and Burberry filling the racks.

#7 Coco Vintage
Where: Shop 6a 232 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy
One of the newest kids on the block, Coco Vintage opened its doors in late 2017. Currently frequented by a small vintage-loving community, Coco Vintage looks like it is set to become Melbourne’s preferred vintage destination in 2018. Owner Ellie King is a vintage connoisseur specialising in 90s to early 2000s vintage, and the expertly curated selection of clothing, accessories and footwear at Coco is a testament to her unique vision and style.
