For Jazmyn Mauricio, a social media model who started off with 5k followers, is now represented by Neon Model Management, modelling was a career she wanted to pursue from an early age.
“I always wanted to do modelling, but I thought that to be a model you had to be really tall and thin, that you have to have a unique look- you can’t just look like any other girl and you have to look really natural.”

When contacted by Neon, Jazmyn almost disbelieved that Neon didn’t have a minimum height or size requirement. She was just doing what she loved to do and expressed it through her own platform.
“With these boundaries and requirements set by modelling agencies, I thought I would never get into the industry and so I never really bothered.”
Neon offers models of all heights, sizes, and looks to be represented – making a way for this new and exciting industry I need the new digital age.
So, how does it all work?
Social media modelling offers an opportunity for girls to essentially work for themselves. They collaborate with brands to post photos and model clothing which can either be paid work or in exchange for free products and generous discounts.
According to Jazmyn, companies (mostly being cosmetics and fashion labels), go through Neon if they need a model to either shoot or promote their product. “They will email us with jobs that we have been requested for and we can choose whether or not we want to take them. We are given a week to take a photo if it is a promotional job and we tag the company in the photo which they will then normally repost.”
To put it simply, it’s a win-win!
Make no mistake ladies and gents; as exciting and fun as it may seem (getting free products in exchange for taking cool photos) being a social media influencer requires planning, effort and lots of hard work. Your following doesn’t grow by itself and deals don’t just land in your lap.
Jazmyn also is also studying to be a beauty therapist in her spare time.
Jazmyn Mauricio’s Tips + Tricks For Exposure
1 – Be yourself and keep your Instagram authentic.
“I don’t take any job, only the ones that I like or that suit my Instagram page.”
2 – Have a look that you want to pursue and just go for it.
“It doesn’t matter if you don’t have lots of followers, if you just post that one photo and a company catches that photo then you will get started that way.”
3 – Only accept jobs you feel 100% comfortable doing.
“I wouldn’t accept jobs that I would feel uncomfortable doing, for example lingerie, although it is good exposure when they repost your picture, you should only do jobs that you feel 100% comfortable doing.”
4. Keep your photos looking interesting.
“I like taking my time on my photos, so many girls will post their photos just standing near a wall, I like to make my photos interesting because if they like the photo they’re going to get you again.”
5. Aesthetic is key.
Jazmyn uses apps to edit her photos as opposed to Instagram filters. She says “This is to keep the tones and filters consistent across your ‘gram.”
“I saw lots of girls with really good quality photos and nice Instagrams and I wanted that for me, so I looked into it and found lots of apps and watched tutorials on how to edit my photos”.
What makes Jazmyn Mauricio Made of Fashion?
“I enjoy all aspects of fashion. This industry is becoming so big now, and I’m so glad that I have been able to be a part of it.”
