The trend may seem quite daunting to try yourself, but we are here to help you tackle it head on. Picture all of the precious metals from your go-to gold and silver, through to steel, copper or rose. The trick is to start small – think: a pair of pumps, a lick of nail polish or a twinkling tote – and before you know it you’ll be donning this metallic trend from head to toe.
#1 Small but shiny
If you are new to this shining summer trend, let’s ease in. For the timid type, start with a metallic manicure – for the perfect glistening gold we vouch for OPI’s Glitzerland that you can pick up from David Jones or Myer.
Take on the next step with a pair of statement shoes. While we lust over fashion blogger Georgia Zogopoulos’ much-coveted Gucci gold mules (below), we’ve found a close match in Wittner’s Denzel Mules in gold leather (and the heel height is much more practical, let’s be honest) If you are more daring, opt for Tony Bianco’s show-stopping mirrored silver stiletto boots.

#2 Sporty, chic and silver
Another way to transition into this trend is to pair it back with this summer’s sporty, athleisure trend. Swap out your runners for some eye-catching metallic sneakers like Mimco’s rose gold set (p.s. they are on sale.) Or replace your basic tee with Forever New’s much chicer gold foiled version.

To steal the street style look, go for Life With Bird’s (2 stores in Australia you can visit) reflective silver leather biker and pair with your crisp white basics. We can’t go past a pair of not-so-practical metallic running shorts to really nail this trend’s brief. Adidas Original’s sliver shorties have sold out worldwide, but we’ve hunted down a pair in gold from Melbourne brand L’urv that will do the trick!
#3 Metallic pleated perfection
The flattering fan-pleated skirt was essentially made to shine in metallic hues! So much so, that this wardrobe must-have gets its very own section.
Our love for this look all began last year when Lisa Hamilton (below) of See Want Shop shared her “metallic Marilyn moment” on Instagram. We are sure that millennial pink skirt of pleated perfection would have flown off the shelves shortly after that post.
The look can easily be dressed up with a cami and slingback heels or alternatively with white runners and a tee to take you through the weekend. We’ve turned to the periodic table and sourced out three skirts you can purchase now in Cu (copper), Ag (silver) and Au (gold.)

#4 Go for gold
We think you are ready to take this trend to the next level ‘til you are practically dripping in gold. There are no rules when it comes to this step – simply make sure that you are shining. We look to Aussie social influencers the Twice Blessed twins (below), and bikini babes Tash Oakley and Devin Brugman who are embracing metallic at the moment. From steel jumpsuits to silver suits or titanium tops – the options have become endless.
