Sometimes the 20-something kilos that airlines allow just doesn’t seem enough when you have a large wardrobe. But packing light doesn’t mean you have to forgo fashion. Lucky for you, we’ve come up with a list to make sure your style will slay on vacay. Take up our tips on how to travel light and still look good, and the next thing you know, your phone will be blowing up with Insta notifications.
#1 Pack two swimsuits
You might be thinking that packing two swimsuits is going to weigh more, but there are plenty of reasons you’ll want to bring two. It’s a holiday essential, regardless of the destination – the beach, the hotel pool, an indoor spa, the thermal baths or waterfalls. Wherever you are that requires a swimsuit, it’s bound to be a destination you want to show off on Instagram. This means, you probably won’t be wanting to wear the same one in every photo. Even better, when one’s wet, you can still go for a swim in your second pair.
#2 Choose the right lipstick
Lipsticks don’t weigh much, and they are the trick to brightening up any outfit. Forget the chunky and heavy accessories, a red or pink lipstick will turn your look into a statement photo. We recommend you wear bold coloured clothing to add that extra oomph.
#3 Bring monochrome colours
It’s the oldest trick in the book. Black, white and even grey will go with any other colour, and if you repeat items, no one will notice. You can mix and match outfits seamlessly, so pack as much monochrome as you can. Just be sure to pack a few brighter pieces to wear alongside them, especially if you’re heading somewhere sunny.
Top tip: That item that’s been sitting in your wardrobe for 6 months that you haven’t touched? Leave it there. Chances are it will still remain untouched on holiday. You should have your outfits pre-planned before you leave, and most of all, you should feel comfortable in what you wear.
Sneakers are your friend and you can wear them all day long. Bonus points if they’re a monochrome colour, because we guarantee they will go with any outfit, including dresses! Try lightweight canvas in baby pink and navy blue. Totally in fashion, they are comfy, you can walk for miles and they look great on the ‘gram. Be sure to go for something minimalist to ensure they go with any outfit.
Accessories will add style to any outfit, however earrings are the most noticeable and will take up the least amount of room in your luggage. They are so light, you can even bring a few pairs! Try Lovisa or Collette for some affordable statement pieces. Bring some that are a little flashy to transform the outfit from day to night.
Tip: Carry them in your handbag so you don’t have to stop at the hotel unnecessarily.
#6 Exercise gear
It’s light, it’s comfy and it’s perfect to wear on travel days. Plus, you don’t have to dress up to look good. Add those sneakers you packed, and a lightweight jacket or jumper and voila, you are ready to snap some great pics.
#7 Take the right suitcase?
It’s best to choose something under 4kg to leave enough luggage allowance for the important stuff! Conveniently, Strandbags’ online store have created the option for you to browse suitcases based on weight.
