We’ll take any excuse to get glammed up and pop open a bottle of bubbly with friends, so we’ve hunted down the best places to do just that on November 6. Sure, Flemington Racecourse is the obvious answer to your Melbourne Cup Day celebrations, but if you’d rather not head trackside, our favourite venues around town are hosting a bevy of festivities. With strong themes of bottomless bubbles and brunch, we recommend booking in a recovery day on Wednesday too.
#1 Flemington Racecourse
Where: 448 Epsom Rd, Flemington
The true hot seat for Melbourne Cup day is at Flemington Racecourse. It’s where all the action happens and where you rub shoulders with the who’s who of Melbourne Although there are numerous package options for the day, general admission tickets gets you entry into The Park which features the trendiest eateries, stylish bars and an impressive two-story enclosure housing Myer Fashions on the Field. Grammy-winning Sam Smith will be performing pre-race and The Presets will keep the party going in The Park precinct.

#2 The Atlantic at Crown
Where: 8 Whiteman St, Southbank
Make a long weekend of it and book a room at Crown before heading down to The Atlantic for a three course menu ‘Ocean to Plate’ crafted by Executive Chef Nick Mahlook. This menu definitely speaks to seafood lovers, however our eyes went straight to the $10 Espresso Martini special.
#3 Fargo & Co
Where: 216 Swan St, Richmond
Round up the girls and head to Fargo & Co for their Melbourne Cup Bottomless Brunch including free flowing mimosas, prosecco, moscato and Fargo’s Spritz to get the day going. Want to go all out? Pay a bit extra to add Moet & Chandon on to the drinks list plus a Fargo tasting plate to snack on before the main race. The party continues after race with DJs starting from 7pm.
#4 The Emerson
Where: 143-145 Commercial Rd, South Yarra
Start off the day with a glass of Veuve on arrival then plunge into three hours of Spritz, Bloody Mary’s, mimosa’s and canapés atop The Emerson rooftop. While guzzling back the food and drink, don’t forget to pay attention to the race from the large screens. In true The Emerson style, we are sure the party will go on into the night (or early morning!)
#5 Mr Mason
Where: Shop 10/530 Collins Street, Melbourne
Add a bit of French flair to your Melbourne Cup luncheon at the CBD’s Mr Mason. During the three course lunch, the races will play live as well as a variety of sweeps and prizes for the best dressed. We think a macaron is the perfect way to finish off the day of French fare, fillies and frocks.
#6 The Provincial
Where: 299 Brunswick St, Fitzroy
One of Fitzroy’s newest and most popular rooftops will play host to an afternoon of endless bubbly, mimosas, bellinis, house wine, selected beers and their specialty race day cocktail. Enjoy all of this while the race plays on their big screen. The party continues on post-race with live acoustic music downstairs.
#7 The Smith
Where: 213-219 High St, Prahran
Before the race kicks off, enjoy a three course lunch with glass of Prosecco at The Smith’s dining room before heading into the bar to catch the race live and loud on the “Jumbotron” screen. We definitely wouldn’t say no to their ‘Espresso Martini Brulee with Donuts’ dessert.
#8 Terminus Hotel
Where: 605 Victoria St, Abbotsford
If you are looking for a more relaxed vibe to watch every race, head to Abbotsford’s The Terminus. Plus, if you book a table of five or more and receive a free jug of Pimms and cheese board – and who can say no to free cheese?
Where: 10-18 Jacka Boulevard, St Kilda
For a bit of a sea change, spend your Cup Day along the sand of St Kilda beach at Republica. With big screens, a three course lunch and glass of bubbles, you’ll be set for the day. Plus they are also giving away two InStitchu shirts and ties for the guys. Get in early to secure one of their famous hanging chairs along the deck.

If you are heading to the track, start off your morning with Neptune’s Champagne Breakfast. It includes flowing Ruinart Champagne, a three course breakfast, return transfers to and from Flemington racecourse plus a post-race recovery kit (yes please!) For those who aren’t making their way to the main event, they are also hosting a Boozy Race Banquet from 1pm . Here, they’ll pour bottomless Capi cocktails, put on a rolling feast, show a live stream of the big race and won’t forget about the sweepstakes.
#11 Melba at The Langham
Where: 1 Southgate Ave, Southbank
Make a day of it at The Langham’s Melba Restaurant. Media personality Gorgi Coghlan will host the lunch and scout the room for the best dressed and best headpiece. The food is an event in itself with Melba’s flavours of the world grazing buffet and interactive kitchens plus desserts and cheese. Racing enthusiasts can watch the live action from Flemington, or you can enjoy the live acoustic jazz music throughout the afternoon.

#12 Yarra Valley Racing Club
Where: Armstrong Grove, Yarra Glen
Flemington may host the main event, but Yarra Valley Racing Club celebrate the Melbourne Cup their own way… with the biggest harness racing meeting in the Southern Hemisphere. It’s all the fun of heading to the races and you are more likely to find a good seat. You won’t miss the action of the race that stops the nation with all the Flemington action live on the big screen.
#13 College Lawn Hotel
Where: 36 Greville St, Prahran
The College Lawn Hotel is another option if you are the easy-going type. With a focus on taking a fun punt, the first 50 punters through the doors on Cup Day will receive a mystery trifecta bet. Book your crew a table below, or just rock up on the day.
#14 Newmarket Hotel
Where: 34 Inkerman St, St Kilda
Start your Cup Day with an espresso martini at the Newmarket Hotel’s two-hour bottomless brunch. Yes, their package includes espresso martinis along with mimosas, bellinis, beer, wine and an item from their brunch menu of course. Stayto watch the race live from their screens.

#16 Imperial South Yarra

Pull together a group of girls to watch the race live and loud at The Imperial for Melbourne Cup. They’ll be popping bottles of bubbles all Spring Racing Carnival with three hours of bottomless bellinis, mimosas, bubbly and wine – just ensure you arrive before 5pm.
